Study Shows Resveratrol Lowers The Chance of Stroke
In a new study presented at the conference of the Society for Neuroscience in Atlanta, it was revealed that resveratrol considerably lowered the chances of having a stroke. This study proves that resveratrol directly impacts on the brain functions and protects against stroke and it is in line with other research findings that have established resveratrol as a potent factor in affecting brain to regulate and control blood sugar.
The researchers found that infusion of resveratrol leads to enhanced levels of heme oxygen, an enzyme that protects brain cell damage. It is through these heme oxygen enzymes’ ability to ensure protection from free radical damage that resveratrol is able to trigger the process for lowering the risk of stroke.
The research was carried out using moderate doses of resveratrol on some of the laboratory mice and then affecting stroke like damage to their brains. It was found that the mice that had been pre-treated with resveratrol were vastly protected from brain damage. In fact the researchers found over 40 percent less brain damage in mice that had had resveratrol given to them than those who were kept on a regular diet.
The above findings are encouraging as they point out to yet another powerful health benefit of resveratrol, a chemical found in red grapes, red wine and some nuts. There have been scores of other general as well as specific benefits revealed of consuming this phytochemical. Resveratrol’s general health benefits include providing longevity, high energy levels and protection against various diseases like cardiovascular and degenerative.
Its specific benefits range from its ability to treat menopausal symptoms without any side-effects like HRT does, its ability to enhance vulnerability of pancreatic cancel cells to chemotherapy, its potency in reducing influenza virus’ efficacy, and its ability to make HIV more sensitive to drugs. While resveratrol has been traditionally identified as providing health benefits, it is only now as the research has progressed that some amazing benefits of resveratrol are being illustrated.
Being packed with numerous health benefits, resveratrol has gained attention of the researchers as well as the people who want to lead a healthy fulfilling life. Resveratrol is available in red grapes and its benefits are further enhanced through the fermentation process that red wine has to undergo.
However, for people who do not have easy access to red grapes or who are averse to drinking wine, there are several supplements available in the market. These supplements come in convenient packaging and are easy to use and ensure that whatever your lifestyle is, you can always get the benefits of resveratrol.
