Why do we recommend this brand?

We compared public lab tests and pricing shown on many of the top websites, as well as public information available on most resveratrol products. We suggest reading the rest of our articles on resveratrol for detailed information on resveratrol. However after we finished our comparison, we found a company that is relatively unknown to have a strong following in the supplement community. We chose the company called RevGenetics because they produce many resveratrol products in the United States including regular resveratrol products, micronized resveratrol products, a resveratrol cream and safety test their finished products for things that other companies (including Consumer Labs), do not test for (such as unauthorized solvents and PAH or Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons). For the benefit of your health, testing of these solvents and PAH is important as many solvents are found to be detrimental to health, and most companies that import resveratrol, simply do not test safety test the material for such issues. Since resveratrol is mostly imported from other countries, we find it simply a no-brainer to test for unauthorized solvents and PAH in all imported material. RevGenetics does just that and tests all resveratrol material, while the other companies simply do not. We hope that this changes in the future.

What vitamin websites did you check?

When we began comparing products, we initially had a hard time deciding which particular products offered the best price, safety and quality combination. While we are not associated with GNC, LEF, iHerb, Vitacost, or other resellers we compared. We did begin by comparing product pricing first among all the high purity brands. We looked at all the products offered at GNC, LEF, iHerb, Vitacost, and RevGenetics websites. Although some of these websites sell many generic brands, we began by first strictly comparing low pricing for the highest purity products offered. We quickly found that the RevGenetics and Vitacost offered the lowest pricing for high purity resveratrol, but Vitacost lacked public safety tests showing purity and heavy metals content. The two brands that made the cut for lowest pricing were the NSI brand from Vitacost that contained 500mg of 98% resveratrol and the X500 product from RevGenetics that containd 500mg of 99% resveratrol. These two products were similarly matched providing the lowest price to the public for resveratrol purity at 98% or above. (RevGenetics provides 30 capsules for $27.99 and NSI provides 60 capsules at $37.99). The pricing was verified on 08/31/2011. Both offer free shipping when buying more than a certain amount. Did you check their manufacturing processes or the safety of their products?

After pricing we then looked deeper by reviewing the public lab safety tests for these low priced products. At this point RevGenetics pulled ahead easily in our comparison by providing the public the safety lab test on their website, and publicly stating that they do not skip safety testing of any raw material used in manufacturing (which the FDA allows and is commonly called “skip-lot testing”). Vitacost did not have the safety lab information on their website, did not offer information about their manufacturing processes, and does not state whether or not they do “skip-lot” testing which has the potential of introducing unauthorized metals or microbial issues such as e-coli into your supplements.

Recommendation Summary:

At the end of our low price comparison, RevGenetics was the only company of the two that provided a very good price for high quality resveratrol that also made us feel confident in their manufacturing practices, by providing their actual lab results on their website and customer service due to their accreditation by the BBB (RevGenetics Accreditation). What about time-release resveratrol?

Time release capsules or formulations work on the premise that small doses are released into your system throughout the day, and that the small doses will provide benefits.
